Boy, 2, accidentally shoots himself dead after finding dad's loaded gun

A devastating incident occurred as a two-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself upon finding his father’s loaded gun in a pickup truck.

The tragedy unfolded when Warren Bennett Oser, from North Carolina, US, gained access to his father’s vehicle through an open door at their residence in Benson, where he discovered a loaded Smith & Wesson 40-caliber handgun.

Reports indicate that the firearm was left unattended on the front seat, allowing the toddler to begin playing with it. Despite the presence of his parents at home during the incident, the two-year-old inadvertently shot himself in the head. He was swiftly transported to Johnson Medical Center Clayton but was, unfortunately, pronounced dead upon arrival.

Following a shooting report on October 15 around 6pm, Warren Bennett Oser of North Carolina, US, was discovered by law enforcement with a gunshot wound to his head.

His father, Tyler Oser, is set to face charges for the improper and unsafe storage of firearms, aimed to protect minors, as confirmed by the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office this week.

The District Attorney, Susan Doyle, expressed in a statement, “My condolences go out to the parents as they mourn the loss of their son.

“This is not about the rightful ownership of guns. This is about the responsibility of gun owners in securing weapons away from children to ensure their safety.”
