The Block Triple Threat finale recap

June 2024 · 3 minute read

DARREN and Deanne Jolly have taken home the grand prize on The Block after selling their apartment for a record-breaking profit.

In a complete turnaround from their auction flop last year which saw them leave almost empty-handed after pocketing just $10,000, the Melbourne couple pulled in a profit of $835,000 — the biggest ever win in The Block’s history.

Along with the grand prize money of $100,000, the pair take home $935,000.

But before the auction went ahead, there was one final drama between the controversial couple and the other teams.

After finding out their reserve prices, the contestants were given the opportunity to decide as a group the order the apartments would be auctioned in.

Ayden suggested Dea and Daz’s apartment be the first to go under the hammer to set a strong benchmark for the others — but the pair disagreed.

“I’m so pissed off ... we’re being punished for having the best apartment again,” Dea could be heard saying to Darren as they walked outside to call their agent for advice.

“I have a feeling they’ve all been talking ... those three have come up with a little plan and think we’ll follow on.”

“We’ve been burnt before — we’re just completely on edge about it all,” Darren said.

Telling the other teams they were “gun shy” after last year’s depressing result and suggesting they’d rather be the third or fourth team to go under the hammer, the auctioning order was thrown back to Scotty — who drew names out of a hat.

Fresh from last week’s dramatic walkout, where they stormed off The Block and threatened to quit the show, Tim and Anastasia were up first.

With a reserve of $1,420,000, the bids rolled in fast — and quickly set the first record of the night. With the winning bid landing at $2,175,000, the pair pocketed a profit of $755,000 — a record win in the show’s history.

Next up, Jess and Ayden were in the hot seat.

“We want to build a house on our block of land — we wanted $250,000,” Ayden said when Scotty asked what they wanted to leave the show with. And they got a lot more than that.

With a reserve of $1,335,000, the hammer slammed down on a final bid of $2,000,000 — giving the Gold Coast couple a profit of $665,000.

“You’ve also just changed our lives,” an emotional Jess said.

Getting what they wished for, Deanne and Darren’s apartment was the third to go under the hammer. And from the opening offer, it was clear this wasn’t going to be a repeat of last year’s anti-climatic result.

The first two bids quickly overtook their reserve of $1,455,000 and ensured they’d be leaving with a healthy profit.

But it was the final bid of $2,290,000 that saw them steal Tim and Anastasia’s record for the highest ever win — the pair pocketing $835,000.

Even the usually opinionated Deanne was lost for words.

“I’m shocked, I’m speechless — for the first time ever,” she said.

Seeing out the explosive auction was Josh and Charlotte.

Their reserve of $1,390,000 was blown out of the water with an opening bid of $1.8 million.

And while the dollars continued to hike closer to Dea and Daz’s record-setting win, it stopped short with a final bid of $2,200,000 — leaving the couple with a profit of $810,000.

After the excitement of the auctions, contestants headed out to celebrate together at the show’s wrap party. Everyone partied until the early hours of the morning at The Emerson in South Yarra.
